The
unity candle ceremony is a beautiful visual illustration of the
biblical truth found in Genesis 2:24, “...a
man shall leave his father and his mother; and shall cleave to
his wife; and they shall become one flesh”.
The two individual candles represent the bride and groom. These
candles are usually lit by the individual mothers (or family member)
and burn during the time of the processional thru the exchanging
of vows. After vows are repeated the bride and groom take their
individual candle and together light the center unity candle.
Once the center candle is lit the individual candles are extinguished.
This represents the two individual lives becoming one new family.
The
unity candle is displayed in the home as a reminder of their love,
vows, and new family unit. Burn the candle often to remind you
of that special day and your commitment to each other.
