"I Can Do That"

While on a trip that had only two purposes, visiting my daughter and attending a woodcarvers' convention, I came in contact with carved candles.  We visited a candle shop where an individual was layering waxes and carving the most beautiful candles I had ever seen.  After watching for quite a while I said to myself, "I can do that" - after all I had just come from a woodcarvers' convention.  I came home and could not get the carved candles out of my head.  I started to do some reasearch and began my quest to make some candles.  First thing I needed was equipment.  My Dad always said, "why buy it when you can make it".  I guess it's right when they say you become your Dad as you become older.  I became obsessed with making the equipment needed to make carved candles.  I needed to make a dip tank and inspiration came from many sources....a horse watering trough sitting in the middle of a field, a church baptismal heater, a Pepsi syrup tank and some extra plumbing fixings.  It took well over a year from the time I started until the first carved candle.  The first candle was "pitiful" (short fat fingers weren't designed for this) and still sits on a shelf in my shop to remind me from where we started.  Many hours have been spent in developing a beautiful Unity Candle that I could be proud of.  I personally hand carve each candle that leaves my shop for your special wedding day.

The beauty of a carved candle is the way the light glows and reflects through the sides of the candle.  It can only be experienced by burning the candle.  Please don't purchase a candle and never light it.  The outside design of a carved candle may be preserved by inserting a clear tea light in the "well" that forms during the burning process. 

Light in Darkness

During a trip to a cave our guide asked if we wanted to experience "total darkness".  When he turned the lights off you couldn't see your hand in front of your eyes.  The total darkness reminded me of the many references in the Bible that separation from God is like being in total darkness.  I was thankful when the lights came back on in the cave.

Jesus says,

"I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the Light of life" ( John 8:12). 

   "I have come as Light into the world, that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness" (John12:46). 

 Have you come out of darkness and into the Light?  Follow the footsteps of Jesus that leads from spiritual darkness, to the cross of Calvary, to the eternal Light of heaven.

We are lost and separated from God because of sin.  "There is none righteous; not even one." (Romans 3:10). 

 "For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

  "For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23)

I am so glad that God has provided a way to take care of my sin. " But God demonstrated His own Love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)

All that is required, " That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation" (Romans 10:9,10).

  "He who has the Son has the Life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.  These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you  have eternal life" (1 John 5:12,13).

 Do you know? Call upon Jesus and receive Him as your Saviour today.

Just as a candle brings light to a darkened room,

The Lord Jesus Christ (The Light of the World) will bring everlasting light to your soul
